After almost a decade working in institutional asset management (during which I became a CFA® charterholder), I got tired of making money for big corporations. I have always had a passion for personal finance, and spent time advising family and friends on the topic since college. At the same time, as I helped my wife, Claire, with her transition from medical school to family medicine residency and recently to her first position as an attending, I realized how many complex decisions early career physicians face and how little guidance they receive. So, I decided to start Differential Planning to help physicians navigate these decisions and improve their financial wellness.
When explaining a concept from finance, I’ve often found myself using medical analogies. Just as in medicine you develop a differential diagnosis before putting together a plan, I take the time to evaluate your financial health before building a financial plan. Taking a history is important in putting together your differential; likewise, listening to you is a critical step for me in understanding your financial situation. Just as you work to guide your patients through a complex system, I will work with you as my client to guide you through the complexities of personal finance.
